Generally my diet is good. I try very hard to avoid white sugar, highly refined foods and anything with a lot of preservatives.
I am, my wife tells me, a "flexitarian", which means I eat mostly vegetarian and a little meat. Generally I eat organic foods when possible.
This is what makes up the bulk of my daily diet:
1. Salad stuff i.e. Lettuce, capsicum, tomatoes, carrot etc.
2. Vegetables, all types
3. Fruit
3. Meat
4. Bread (not white), about twice a week
5. Cheese
6. Soy milk
7. Fresh coffee (1 a day)
8. Raw nuts, goji berries, chia seeds etc
9. Rooibos tea
10. Lots of filtered water
Breakfast:
Generally 5 or 6 times a week I have 400ml of Green Smoothie, made in our Vitamix, for breakfast. There are many, many types of Green Smoothie. We make 4 serves at a time as follows:
1. 3 cups of filtered water.
2. 2 table spoons of Chia seeds.
3. 2 table spoons of flax seeds.
4. 2 table spoons of fibre cleanse.
5. About 4 handfuls of any leafy green veg normally kale or spinach
6. 5 pieces of fruit, normally 2 bananas, then what ever else we have, apple, pear, berries, water melon coconut etc.
Mid-morning:
1 large soy cappuccino with 1 raw sugar.
Lunch:
A large salad, generally :
2 handfuls of mixed salad, 1 handful of baby spinach, 1 carrot, ¼ capsicum, ¼ cucumber, 2 - 3 tomatoes, with a little olive oil and balsamic vinegar. For a snack I have a small handful of raw mixed nuts and a rooibos (no milk or sugar)
Dinner:
Varies, but normally lots of veg and occasionally a small piece of meat. No rice, pasta maybe once a week. We have quinoa with stirfries.
If I am hungry in between I will snack on a few nuts.
My biggest downfall is probably beer and red wine, both of which I really do enjoy. I have been drinking home brew beer for a long time now. By all accounts I have got quite good at making my own beer. I found making my own beer fun, however the secret to home brew is sterilization. If you have ever had a bad home brew it because the things weren't clean enough. The bottle cleaning and bottling process takes me at least 4 hours, time that I am finding harder and harder to fit in.
About two years ago I was introduced to micro-brewing and I now get my beer form the unbelievably fantastic Central Coast Brewery. It is hand crafted beer made to commercial standards but without the preservatives and chemicals. The only problem I have it is tastes too darn good!
This is what I occasionally (maybe once a month or less) ingest:
1. Sweets, lollies, chocolate i.e. sugary stuff.
2. Cake, muffins etc.
3. Sweet biscuits, cookies etc.
4. Crisps (chips).
4. Cow's milk (but I do eat cheese)
5. Breakfast cereals.
6. White bread.
7. Roasted, salted nuts.
This is what I DON'T ingest:
1. Tobacco (of any kind)
2. Illegal drugs (of any kind)
3. Fast food i.e MacDonald's, Pizza Hut (of any kind). This includes fried food i.e. hot chips, dim-sims, hash browns etc.
If I am out and REALLY need food I will have a Subway (6 grams or less).
4. Cola, soft drink, soda-pop etc (of any kind)
5. Instant coffee.
6. Eggs (I have a strong sensitivity to albumin).
7. Fish (of any kind, I do take Omega-3 fish oil).
8. Rice.
9. Two minute noodles.
10. Salami and other processed meats.
